地点:安中大楼A418
报告内容简介:
This seminar deals with a general topic of probability and geotechnical engineering. It starts with the fundamental definition of probability, from both frequentist and Bayesian points of view, and a brief review on the development history of probability theory, followed by some general observations on geotechnical engineering practice. Then, some applications of probability to geotechnical engineering are illustrated, including probabilistic geotechnical site characterization and probability/reliability – based design. A move to reliability-based design codes around the world is highlighted, and advantages and limitations of the probabilistic approaches are also commented.
报告人简介:
Dr. Yu Wang (王宇) is an Assistant Professor of geotechnical engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He was educated in mainland China, Hong Kong and USA, and he obtained his Ph.D. degree from Cornell University, USA. His recent research efforts have focused on geotechnical risk and reliability (e.g., probabilistic characterization of soil properties, reliability- based design, probabilistic slope stability analysis), soil-structure interaction (e.g., responses of buried utility pipelines to ground displacement induced by seismic strong motions or urban underground construction activities such as tunneling), and seismic risk assessment of critical civil infrastructure systems (e.g. water supply systems). Dr. Wang was recently awarded the first Wilson Tang best paper award in Singapore. He currently is the president-elect of ASCE Hong Kong Section, and he is a member of several international Technical Committees (TC), including an ASCE Geo-Institute TC on Risk and two ISSMGE TCs on Risk and In-Situ Testing, respectively.
